Collage<\/b>  from the French<\/a>: coller<\/i>, \u00abto glue\u00bb or \u00abto stick together\u00bb is a technique of art creation, primarily used in the visual arts<\/a>, but in music too, by which art results from an assemblage<\/a> of different forms, thus creating a new whole. (Compare with pastiche<\/a>, which is a \u00abpasting\u00bb together.)<\/p>\n

A collage may sometimes include magazine and newspaper clippings<\/a>, ribbons<\/a>, paint<\/a>, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs<\/a> and other found objects<\/a>, glued to a piece of paper or canvas. The origins of collage can be traced back hundreds of years, but this technique made a dramatic reappearance in the early 20th century as an art<\/a> form of novelty.<\/p>\n

The term Papier coll\u00e9<\/a><\/i> was coined by both Georges Braque<\/a> and Pablo Picasso<\/a> in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art.<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
