Grm Primary School
Grm Primary School is located in Novo mesto in the south-eastern part of Slovenia. Our school is attended by more than 800 children, who predominantly come from the urban environment, between the ages of 6 and 15 and are tought by 75 teachers.
Grm Primary School already participated in two Comenius projects which were carried out between 2007 and 2009 and between 2010 and 2012. While participating in the exchange partner projects, we visited many European primary schools which improved our work by obtaining additional knowledge. Our pupils also participated in the exchanges. Besides the exchange partner projects, our teachers took part in the individual trainings within Comenius Lifelong Learning Programme (job shadowing, courses of English, seminars about special needs students). The school has a lot of experience in organizing linguistic seminars. For instance, we have been offering a language summer camp for pupils from Austria who can learn Slovene for more than 20 years now.
Apart from the international projects, our school is known for its success in both academic and sport competitions, its cultural achievements and its extra-curricular activities. Our pupils are multiple national champions in athletics, they put on plays, participate in school choirs and publish the school newspaper.
Our top priority is to improve interpersonal relations and reading abilities. These activities will enhance the competences of our pupils and teachers and enable the development of our school in order to create the environment of well-being and provide opportunities to develop our potentials.
Our national examination results show the need for systematic improvement of critical thinking which is the subject where our pupils achieved poor results. This project will help enhance such competences of both the pupils and teachers in collaboration with exchange partner schools.
