FAKE NEWS DEBATE

Last Thursday, students from ESO 4th Year held a debate whose topic was: ‘Fake News: Is censorship a possible solution?’. The class was split into two groups; one being in favour of such a measure, one being against it.

The aim of this activity was to argue about a trendy topic as well as to promote critical thinking. Students are required to think for themselves and reflect about current hot topics. They are also asked to try to show empathy and be in someone else’s shoes as this is a really controversial issue.

The students did an amazing job. They showed a great knowledge about the topic, listened to the other arguments respectfully and were able to carry an hour-long debate in English with fluency and confidence.

Needless to say, freedom of speech is highly valued in class, thus, no-one is in favour of limiting it.
