THE WAR OF THE WORLDS & HALLOWEEN
Halloween is back and ESO 3rd students have experienced it by doing something different. On Friday 27th, they listened to the ‘The War of The Worlds’ radio adaptation broadcasted on the American radio on October 30th 1938, starring Orson Welles.
After hearing it, they were explained how millions of Americans believed there was a real alien invasion and thousands tried to run away or even attempted to kill themselves. They were shown the following day’s newspaper frontpage so that they could see and read the impact of the radio adaptation on the audience. We had a discussion debating about what they would have done had they been in that situation and, especially, about whether we must believe everything we watch or listen to in the news and the issue of fake news.
