EASTER HOLIDAYS COMES UP…
BUT BEFORE IT??
I.E.S. Entresierras bilingual program goes on taking place from 1st
to 4th grade groups. The use of the second language not necessarily as a topic of instruction but as a vehicle for instruction of other curriculum subjects is our theory. Keeping this in mind the bilingual teachers and subjects have displayed a wide range of different activities to make students feel more comfortable and confident with the English language.
1º ESO group talked about continental landscape (weather conditions, plants, animal). They also worked with essential vocabulary for instructions to make a sculpture step by step and different shapes as well. Students used prepositions of place and commands in a peer activity to draw unusual characters on the whiteboard. Thanks to that, Frankenstein and Terminator could live happily under the sea ‘next to’, ‘behind’ or ‘near’ each other. Similarly, topics of interest like robots and the future took up in the ICT subject.
2ºESO group could talk about reformation of Luther and Counter-Reformation of the Catholic Church in English. Students also learned to use different ways to share their opinions in English and to disagree in issues related to cibercrime.
3º ESO course had to debate about mining and natural resources (situation and main problems)in G&H lessons. The importance of current famous IT entrepreneurs work like Bill Gates (Windows…), Steve Jobs (Apple), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook,…), Elon Musk (Tesla, Space X , Open AI, …) was introduced and then deeply debated in ITC lesson. Students were told to explain their art works to the language assistant and how they had done them.
4º ESO group were taught the battles and the Second World War in English. Students were approached to debate about the negative impacts of AI (Artifical Intelligence)in today’s society, its risks and implications and its legislation as well.
All groups, from 1st to 4th level have actively participated in the ephemeris celebrated in the centre and contributed with their english works (“The role of women in science”, “Saint Valentine” among others).
The bilingual department and its members are really excited with the result of the activities in this second term.
HAPPY EASTER HOLIDAYS.
