Posee una copa redondeada con ramas que tienden a ser rectas y ascendentes. Las hojas son simples, de 4 a 6 cm de longitud, ovales a oblongas, de color verde brillante que a menudo se torna p\u00farpura en ciertas variedades cultivadas. Florece a principios de la primavera, presentando flores solitarias o en parejas, de color blanco o ligeramente rosado.
