      Hello Jesús,

You must identify the use of the present simple or the present continuous in the sentences given. You just identified the tense, which is not the objetive of the exercise.

You need to give information about the use of the present simple or continuous, that is to say (es decir), why the present continous is used in sentences number 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 and why the present simple is used in number 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10. I am going to give you an example:

The use of the present continuous in sentence number 1 «At 6 pm they are meeting Ben’s aunt in Brighton.» is definite future plan. Definite future plan is one of the uses of the present continuous.

Anyway, read some comments by your partners and you will understand what the activity is about (lee los comentarios de tus compañeros y entenderás en qué consiste la actividad).

I hope you understand what I mean.

2.- It’s a situation that is occurring in this moment or will happen in a certain future.

    • María del Pilar Zamora Lara dice:

      Hello Jesus,

The use you mention in number 10 is correct «Habit». With respect to the uses you mention in number 1, 2 and 10 are not very precise or totally correct. Number 1 is a definite future plan and number 2 is a temporary situation and number 10 involves talking about what happens in a book

Remember that the uses of the present simple are:

      a. general truths
      b. habit
      c. permanent situations
      d. stative verbs
      e. actions which are part of a timetable
      f. to talk about what happens in books, plays, novels, etc.
      g. to talk about future events after certain words (when, until, before)

Remember that the uses of the present continuous:

      a. action at the moment of speaking
      b. temporary situation
      c. annoying habit
      d. definite future plan
      e. Talking about people in pictures or at the moment you are speaking(describing their clothes, describing their actions)
      f. Situation which are slowly changing (e.g. Mary is getting divorced)
