Words of the week: «Hit the road» and «The highways and byways»
Hello,
Here you have the expressions of the week:
HIT THE ROAD
to leave a place or to begin a journey
I’d love to stay longer, but I must be hitting the road.
Just to let you know that there is a great number of expressions with «hit» we can use in an informal context (eg. hit the ceiling= get angry, hit the hay/sack= go to bed, hit the bottle=get drunk, hit the books = study, etc.)
THE HIGHWAYS AND BYWAYS
the roads and paths of a place
They travelled the highways and byways of Spain.
