Going further IX: mountain range, mountain ridge and peak
Hello,
Here you are the difference between a mountain range and a mountain ridge. They are, of course, related.
A mountain range makes reference to a group or chain of mountains that are close together and also more or less parallel lines of mountains closely related as in origin. Mountain ranges are usually separated from other mountain ranges by passes and rivers.
Mountain ranges are formed by a variety of geological processes, but most of the significant ones on Earth are the result of plate tectonics.
Eg : Andes, Appalachian, Himalayas
A ridge or mountain ridge is a geological feature consisting of a chain of mountains or hills that form a continuous elevated crest for some distance. The lines along the crest formed by the highest points (peaks) are called ridgelines. Ridges are usually termed hills or mountains as well, depending on size.
