What is a report? Before writing a report, it is crucial to understand what it is:<\/p>\n
\u00abA report is usually written for a superior (e.g. a teacher) or a peer group (e.g. members of an English club). Candidates are expected to give some factual information<\/strong> and make suggestions or recommendations<\/strong>. A report should be clearly organised and may include headings<\/strong>.\u00bb <\/p>\n

Writing a report is better (and easier) than you might think. As with all the other writing tasks, reports follow a specific structure and they are normally quite similar.<\/p>\n
We are going to find out how reports are organised. There are four main sections, which work in almost every single report:<\/strong><\/p>\n

- Title and introduction<\/strong><\/li>\n
- First topic point<\/strong> <\/li>\n
- Second topic point<\/strong> <\/li>\n
- Your suggestions\/recommendations <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
In a report we also give each section a heading, <\/strong>so that it becomes easier for the reader to find a specific piece of information. <\/p>\n
Last but not least, the tone is generally formal. <\/p>\n
