Our Erasmus+ exchange in Belgium has become a reality! On May 10th, we arrived at Gent-Sint-Pieters station, where our Belgian host families warmly welcomed us. From there, we went to their homes to get to know their neighborhoods and daily lives. In the afternoon, each of us spent time with our Belgian partner: some explored the city by bike, others went for a walk\u2014and in the evening, we all met up for dinner in the beautiful city center of Ghent.<\/p>\n

May 11th<\/strong> was a day for bonding. In the morning, we enjoyed a bike ride with our host families, and in the afternoon, we spent time relaxing at the lake and recreational park Blaarmeersen\u2014swimming, playing games, and enjoying the sun. Dinner was a treat: we tasted the traditional frituur<\/em>, where fries are served with all kinds of sauces and toppings. Absolutely delicious!<\/p>\n

On May 12th<\/strong>, we visited Sint-Lievens College, our partners\u2019 school. We toured the building, learned about the Belgian educational system, and played a fun board game in the park. Later, we joined a class where we learned about Ghent\u2019s history through a team trivia game. The day ended with a guided tour around the city’s most iconic landmarks. Ghent truly is a beautiful place!<\/p>\n

May 13th<\/strong> was a full day of learning. We attended several classes: the first was with Mr. R. Wulgaert, who introduced us to artificial intelligence, its uses, and how it has evolved over time. Next, we had a physics class with Mr. P. Verbeke, where we explored wave refraction through fun and hands-on experiments. Finally, we learned about sustainability with Mr. B. Govaert, an expert in mobility. He explained how Ghent transformed from a car-heavy city into \u201cthe city of bicycles,\u201d redesigning public spaces to favor pedestrians and cyclists. In the afternoon, we had free time to enjoy the city with our Belgian friends.<\/p>\n

On May 14th<\/strong>, we visited Bruges\u2014and we were amazed! The medieval city center, the canals that looked straight out of a fairytale, the charming Flemish houses, and the main square with its impressive belfry won our hearts. Of course, we couldn\u2019t leave without trying a delicious Belgian waffle!<\/p>\n

May 15th<\/strong> took us to Brussels and its institutions. We started at the interactive Parlamentarium, where we learned about how the European Union was formed. Then, we visited the actual Parliament, where we learned how decisions are made at the European level and how political parties across different countries join forces into political families. We were lucky to attend a live parliamentary session\u2014and we even saw the President of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, participating! It was exciting to see how Andalusia also has a voice in Europe. In the afternoon, we participated in a fun \u201cTreasure Hunt\u201d through Brussels, taking photos at important landmarks. We all met at the end in the iconic Grand Place to announce the winning team. After returning to Ghent, we spent our last evening with the host families.<\/p>\n

On May 16th<\/strong>, we returned for one final visit to Sint-Lievens College. We began with a class by Mr. N. Segers on how language works in the field of artificial intelligence and how to get better results when interacting with it. In the next physics class with Mr. Verbeke, we faced a creative challenge: build the tallest and strongest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows! It was harder than it looked, but we had a great time working in teams. Finally, the school\u2019s vice principal, Mr. K. Mattheeuws, presented us with diplomas to recognize our Erasmus+ experience. At midday, while our Belgian friends went to class, we took the opportunity to buy some souvenirs in the city center. In the afternoon, we all gathered one last time at a local caf\u00e9\u2014such a fun and heartwarming moment!<\/p>\n

May 17th<\/strong> was the day of goodbyes. We attended the Sportfeest<\/em>, a school-wide sports festival organized by the students and teachers, full of energy and excitement. At 1 p.m., we headed to the station to catch the train to the airport.<\/p>\n

We can truly say that this week was full in every sense: we learned about European democracy, Belgium\u2019s rich cultural heritage, sustainability, physics, and artificial intelligence. We also spoke English the entire time\u2014at school, in class, and with our Belgian families\u2014and we discovered so much about Belgian culture. Most of all, we made lasting memories and forged new friendships that we will carry with us forever. From now on, we are Erasmus students\u2014and that experience, we can assure you, stays with you for life.<\/p>\n

\u00a1Nuestro intercambio Erasmus+ en B\u00e9lgica ya es una realidad! El pasado 10 de mayo llegamos a la estaci\u00f3n de Gent-Sint-Pieters, donde las familias belgas nos recibieron con los brazos abiertos. Desde all\u00ed nos dirigimos a sus casas para conocer sus barrios y costumbres. Por la tarde, cada uno comparti\u00f3 tiempo con su compa\u00f1ero\/a belga: algunos exploramos la ciudad en bici, otros paseamos, y por la noche nos reunimos todos para cenar juntos en el encantador centro de Gante.<\/p>\n

11 de mayo<\/strong> fue un d\u00eda de convivencia. Durante la ma\u00f1ana, disfrutamos de un paseo en bici con nuestras familias anfitrionas, y por la tarde nos relajamos en el lago y parque recreativo Blaarmeersen: juegos, chapuzones y muchas risas. La cena fue muy especial: probamos el t\u00edpico “frituur”, donde las patatas fritas con salsas y acompa\u00f1amientos son protagonistas. \u00a1Delicioso!<\/p>\n

El 12 de mayo<\/strong> conocimos el Sint-Lievens College, el instituto de nuestros compa\u00f1eros belgas. Recorrimos sus instalaciones, aprendimos sobre su sistema educativo y participamos en un juego de mesa al aire libre. Despu\u00e9s, en clase, trabajamos la historia de Gante a trav\u00e9s de un divertido trivial por equipos. La jornada termin\u00f3 con una visita guiada por los rincones m\u00e1s emblem\u00e1ticos de la ciudad. \u00a1Nos dej\u00f3 fascinados!<\/p>\n

El 13 de mayo<\/strong> asistimos a varias clases. En la primera, el profesor R. Wulgaert nos introdujo al mundo de la inteligencia artificial, sus aplicaciones y evoluci\u00f3n. En la segunda, con el profesor P. Verbeke, experimentamos con la refracci\u00f3n de ondas. Y en la \u00faltima, el profesor B. Govaert nos explic\u00f3 c\u00f3mo Gante se ha transformado en una ciudad referente en sostenibilidad, priorizando peatones y bicicletas. Por la tarde, seguimos explorando Gante por nuestra cuenta.<\/p>\n

El 14 de mayo<\/strong> visitamos Brujas, una ciudad que nos enamor\u00f3 desde el primer momento. Su casco hist\u00f3rico medieval, sus canales y casas flamencas nos transportaron a otro tiempo. Aprovechamos tambi\u00e9n para probar un aut\u00e9ntico gofre belga. \u00a1Inolvidable!<\/p>\n

El 15 de mayo<\/strong> fue el turno de Bruselas y sus instituciones europeas. En el Parlamentarium aprendimos sobre el proceso de formaci\u00f3n de la Uni\u00f3n Europea. Despu\u00e9s, asistimos a una sesi\u00f3n parlamentaria en directo, donde coincidimos con el presidente andaluz Juanma Moreno. Fue emocionante comprobar c\u00f3mo Andaluc\u00eda tambi\u00e9n tiene voz en Europa. Por la tarde, participamos en un divertido \u201cTreasure Hunt\u201d por el centro de Bruselas que termin\u00f3 en la majestuosa Grand Place. De vuelta a Gante, tuvimos tiempo libre y cena con nuestras familias anfitrionas.<\/p>\n

El 16 de mayo<\/strong> volvimos al Sint-Lievens College. La jornada comenz\u00f3 con una clase sobre el lenguaje en la inteligencia artificial con el profesor N. Segers. Luego, el profesor Verbeke nos propuso un reto: construir la torre m\u00e1s alta con espaguetis y nubes. \u00a1Un ejercicio de creatividad y trabajo en equipo! Finalmente, el vicedirector K. Mattheeuws nos entreg\u00f3 diplomas por nuestra participaci\u00f3n Erasmus. Terminamos el d\u00eda comprando recuerdos y compartiendo una tarde estupenda en una cafeter\u00eda del centro con nuestros compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n

Y el 17 de mayo<\/strong> lleg\u00f3 la despedida. Asistimos al Sportfeest<\/em>, un festival deportivo escolar lleno de energ\u00eda y entusiasmo. Despu\u00e9s, nos dirigimos a la estaci\u00f3n para emprender el viaje de vuelta a casa.<\/p>\n

Esta semana ha sido una experiencia incre\u00edblemente enriquecedora. No solo hemos aprendido sobre historia, ciencia, sostenibilidad e inteligencia artificial, sino que tambi\u00e9n hemos mejorado nuestro ingl\u00e9s y conocido una nueva cultura de forma cercana y real. Nos llevamos nuevos conocimientos, nuevas amistades\u2026 y un mont\u00f3n de recuerdos inolvidables. Ya somos estudiantes Erasmus, y eso, sin duda, nos marcar\u00e1 para siempre.<\/p>\n
