Funciones del auxiliar de conversación
Language assistants´ functions at and outside school, as they can take part in out-of-school and training activities, the latter provided they are always accompanied by teachers.
They are set by annual school regulations, which are common in Andalucia
Here you can read a summary of them all:
a) Desarrollarán su actividad durante doce horas semanales de atención directa al alumnado, que podrán realizarse a tiempo total en un único centro o ser compartidas con otro centro. En todo caso, estarán acompañados siempre en el aula por el docente con el que colaboren y bajo la tutorización de la coordinación bilingüe del centro.

Time permitting language assistants can also help out in English language lessons at every stage taught at school:
- Infant
- Primary
- Secondary
- Bachillerato
- Vocational Training
b) Reforzarán las destrezas orales del alumnado en la lengua extranjera objeto de estudio.
c) Proporcionarán un modelo de corrección fonética y gramatical en la lengua extranjera correspondiente.
d) Además del periodo de atención directa al alumnado, los auxiliares y las auxiliares de conversación se coordinarán con el docente de referencia y la persona responsable de la coordinación bilingüe para la preparación de las clases y la elaboración de materiales didácticos en la lengua extranjera correspondiente. En este sentido, los centros públicos bilingües deberán recopilar y custodiar todos los materiales elaborados en colaboración con sus auxiliares de conversación. Para la recopilación de los materiales y las actividades llevadas a cabo con el alumnado se recomienda el uso de un entorno virtual de aprendizaje.
e) Acercarán al alumnado y al profesorado a la cultura del país donde se habla la lengua extranjera mediante la presentación de temas de actualidad y actividades lúdicas en el aula.
f) Podrán participar en las actividades de orientación y formación que organice la Consejería con competencia en materia de educación, a las que podrán ir acompañados por las personas responsables de la coordinación de la enseñanza bilingüe de sus centros.
g) Podrán participar en las actividades complementarias y extraescolares que se desarrollen dentro del territorio nacional organizadas por el centro al que están asignados, sin que esto conlleve responsabilidad alguna del auxiliar o de la auxiliar sobre el alumnado participante o la actividad que se lleve a cabo. En ningún momento ejercerán la labor correspondiente al profesorado acompañante.
SPANISH EDUCATION SYSTEM – Some tips to understand its structure
BILINGUAL/ CLIL is only implemented in these stages:
PRIMARY
Compulsory primary education begins at the age of six and lasts for six years. There are three two-year cycles.
The first cycle (primer ciclo) is for children from age six to eight years of age. During these two years the child is assessed every term and parents are issued with a report. At the end of this cycle a child may need to repeat a year if they have not reached the education level needed to carry on to the next cycle.
The second cycle (segundo ciclo) is for children aged eight to ten years.
The third cycle (tercer ciclo) is for ten to twelve year olds and serves to prepare them for secondary education. A child may be asked to repeat a year if they have not reached the education level needed to carry on to the next cycle.
The primary curriculum includes natural and social sciences (conocimiento del medio natural, social y cultural), the Spanish language (Castellano) and literature, an autonomous language and literature if applicable (lengua cooficial), mathematics, physical education, plastic and visual arts, and a foreign language and optional Catholic religion (when a child starts school the parents will be asked whether they want their child to attend religious classes). Another foreign language may be added in the third cycle.
CLIL group work from an Italian school. This Content and Language Integrated Learning model is also shared by other European countries.
SECONDARY
Secondary education (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria – ESO)Compulsory secondary education (ESO or «instituto») (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria – ESO) begins at the age of 12 and lasts for four years. It is divided into two cycles, the first for students from age 12 to 14 and the second for students from 14 to 16.
Compulsory subjects include natural and social sciences, history and geography, physical education, plastic and visual arts, Spanish and an autonomous community language (if applicable), a foreign language, literature, mathematics, music and technology.
Once pupils have satisfactorily finished four years of ESO they receive a Secondary Education Certificate. (Graduado en Educación Secundaria). This certificate is necessary for those who want to continue to higher secondary education (Bachillerato) studies or intermediate vocational training.
Depending on the First Foreign Language taught schools can be considered:
- Bilingual in English (117)
- Bilingual in French (4)
- Bilingual in German (2)
The Second Foreign Language therefore can be any of those languages.
