EARLY MODERN SPAIN BEGAN IN 1492. THIS COINCIDED WITH THE REIGN OF THE CATHOLIC MONARCHS IN SPAIN. THEY CONQUERED THE KINGDOM OF GRANADA IN THE RECONQUISTA.

WHO WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT KINGS OF BOURBON DINASTY?

FELIPE V > ruled with absolute power in the first half of the 18th century. He centralised the government. He also eliminated local laws and institutions. He divided Spain into provinces.

CARLOS III > ruled Spain in the second half of the 18th century. He made many changes to improve the country and the lives of the Spanish people. He improved the road system and the cities, and built canals.
ART AND CULTURE IN EARLY MODERN SPAIN
During the period of the Catholic Monarchs and Hapsburg dinasty, new artistic styles appreared in Europe:

The Renaissance –> 15th and 16th century.

The Baroque –> 17th and 18th century.
In the 16th the most important artist was El Greco.
In the 17th century the most important artists were Murillo and Velázquez.
