Spain is a parliamentary monarchy:

  • The monarch (king or queen) is the head of state, but power is exercised by:

  • Parliament and the national government.

Parliament is divided into two chambers:

  1. Congress has 350 deputies. There’s a national election every four years to choose them.

  2. Senate has about 260 senators. Some are chosen in the national election and others represent the autonomous communities.

The national government is made up of the prime minister and ministers.
