Interview with Jonah, our language assistant
Every year the students from the bilingual groups interview our language assistants, so that we know them a bit better. This year has not been an exception and our 1º ESO students have asked our language assistant some questions about Spain, our customs, sports, or the grading sytem in the USA. It was an exceptional experience, and we all had so much fun this time. Thank you Jonah for sharing your answers with us!
Cada año el alumnado de los grupos bilingües entrevista a nuestros auxiliares de conversación para conocerlos un poco mejor. Este año no ha sido una excepción y nuestro alumnado de 1º ESO ha preguntado al auxiliar sobre España, nuestras costumbres, deportes o el sistema de calificación en los EEUU. Fue una experiencia excepcional y nos divertimos mucho esta vez. ¡Gracias Jonah por compartir tus respuestas con nosotros!
Welcome to our school!
Our language assistant is already in our school. He comes from Kansas, the USA and our students are happy to have him in their classes. The USA has 50 states, and Kansas was the 34th state to join the United States. The name «Kansas» comes from the native American Kaws or Kansa people (a Sioux tribe).
Nuestro asistente de conversación ya está en nuestro instituto. Viene de Kansas, EE.UU. y nuestro alumnado está contento de tenerlo en sus clases. Los EE.UU. tienen 50 estados, y Kansas fue el 34 estado en unirse a los Estados Unidos. El nombre «Kansas» viene de los nativo americanos Kaws o Kansa (una tribu Sioux).
Class trip to Riotinto
On Tuesday, the bilingual classes of 2º and 3º ESO with their teachers Pepe, Carmen and Marian, along with Dimitri, our language assistant, travelled to Riotinto. In 1873, Spain sold the Riotinto mines to the British. These were theirs until the year 1954. During these 80 years, the British settled in the area, bringing their language, culture and customs. A guide, who explained our visit in English, accompanied us in the five hours that the visit lasted. He showed us the Mine Museum, House 21, the Peña de Hierro Mine and the mining train.

El martes, las clases bilingües de 2º y 3º de ESO con sus profesores Pepe, Carmen y Marian, junto a Dimitri, nuestro asistente de conversación, viajaron a Riotinto. En 1873, España vendió las minas de Riotinto a los británicos. Estas fueron suyas hasta el año 1954. Durante estos 80 años, los británicos se asentaron en la zona, trayendo su idioma, cultura y costumbres. Un guía, que explicó nuestra visita en inglés, nos acompañó en las cinco horas que duró la visita. Nos mostró el Museo Minero, la Casa 21, lla mina Peña de Hierro y el tren minero.

Interview with Dimitri, our Language Assistant
This week our students from the 1º ESO bilingual programme, Javier C. and Cecilia J., interviewed Dimitri, our language assistant this year. Dimitri is teaching us a lot of things about Canada, customs and language. Now, with this podcast, we have the opportunity to know more about him. Javier and Cecilia will ask him about his life in Spain, food he’s tried, and, among other topics, about snow days in his country.
Esta semana nuestros alumnos de 1º ESO del programa bilingüe, Javier C. and Cecilia J., entrevistaron a Dimitri nuestro asistente de conversación este año. Dimitri nos está enseñando muchas cosas sobre Canadá, costumbres e idioma. Ahora, con este podcast, tenemos la oportunidad de saber más sobre él. Javier y Cecilia le preguntarán sobre su vida en España, la comida que ha probado, y, entre otros temas, sobre los días de nieve en su país.
Our language assistant is in our school!
The language assistant has just arrived at school to work with us in our classes. He’s from Canada and he will be with us until May. We are already preparing a podcast with an interview to know more about him.

Our Language Assistant is already here! Her name is Rachel and we are very happy to have her in our school. She has travelled from far away: the west coast of the USA. She has been really brave because in spite of the difficult times we are going through, she decided to come to Seville and be our Language Assistant. Thank you and welcome!
¡Nuestra Auxiliar de Conversación ya está aquí! Su nombre es Rachel y estamos muy contentos de tenerla en nuestro instituto. Ella ha viajado desde muy lejos: la costa oeste de los Estados Unidos. Ha sido muy valiente porque a pesar de los tiempos difíciles que estamos pasando, ella decidió venir a Sevilla y ser nuestra Auxiliar de Conversación. ¡Gracias y bienvenida!
