Pen pals
Last year, our 3º ESO bilingual group started a pen pal activity with a school in Oslo, Norway. After two years, our students have exchanged a lot of letters and established a nice friendship with our Norwegian pen pals. In these digital times, waiting for a letter to arrive is a heroic deed. The sooner we write the letters, the faster we get an answer.
El año pasado, nuestro grupo bilingüe de 3º ESO inició una actividad de amigos por correspondencia con un instituto de Oslo, Noruega. Después de dos años, nuestros alumnos se han intercambiado muchas cartas y han establecido una bonita amistad con nuestros amigos noruegos. En estos tiempos digitales, esperar a que llegue una carta se ha convertido en un acto heroico. Cuando antes escribamos las cartas, más rápido recibimos una respuesta.
Class trip to Riotinto
On Tuesday, the bilingual classes of 2º and 3º ESO with their teachers Pepe, Carmen and Marian, along with Dimitri, our language assistant, travelled to Riotinto. In 1873, Spain sold the Riotinto mines to the British. These were theirs until the year 1954. During these 80 years, the British settled in the area, bringing their language, culture and customs. A guide, who explained our visit in English, accompanied us in the five hours that the visit lasted. He showed us the Mine Museum, House 21, the Peña de Hierro Mine and the mining train.

El martes, las clases bilingües de 2º y 3º de ESO con sus profesores Pepe, Carmen y Marian, junto a Dimitri, nuestro asistente de conversación, viajaron a Riotinto. En 1873, España vendió las minas de Riotinto a los británicos. Estas fueron suyas hasta el año 1954. Durante estos 80 años, los británicos se asentaron en la zona, trayendo su idioma, cultura y costumbres. Un guía, que explicó nuestra visita en inglés, nos acompañó en las cinco horas que duró la visita. Nos mostró el Museo Minero, la Casa 21, lla mina Peña de Hierro y el tren minero.

Interview with Dimitri, our Language Assistant
This week our students from the 1º ESO bilingual programme, Javier C. and Cecilia J., interviewed Dimitri, our language assistant this year. Dimitri is teaching us a lot of things about Canada, customs and language. Now, with this podcast, we have the opportunity to know more about him. Javier and Cecilia will ask him about his life in Spain, food he’s tried, and, among other topics, about snow days in his country.
Esta semana nuestros alumnos de 1º ESO del programa bilingüe, Javier C. and Cecilia J., entrevistaron a Dimitri nuestro asistente de conversación este año. Dimitri nos está enseñando muchas cosas sobre Canadá, costumbres e idioma. Ahora, con este podcast, tenemos la oportunidad de saber más sobre él. Javier y Cecilia le preguntarán sobre su vida en España, la comida que ha probado, y, entre otros temas, sobre los días de nieve en su país.
Our language assistant is in our school!
The language assistant has just arrived at school to work with us in our classes. He’s from Canada and he will be with us until May. We are already preparing a podcast with an interview to know more about him.
El asistente de conversación acaba de llegar al instituto para trabajar con nosotros en nuestras clases. Es de Canadá y estará con nosotros hasta mayo. Ya estamos preparando un podcast con una entrevista para saber más sobre él.
One more year… It has been Halloween!
And to celebrate it we organised another Halloween Challenge. It’s already our third edition and this year all the students of our affiliated schools had the chance to participate too. We have the winners. In the category of video recipe Raquel M. de 1º ESO D has been the winner. In the category of description Mª del Águila P. from 1º ESO B and Macarena A. from the Cervantes School have been the winners. They have described La Catrina and Wednesday Addams. Congratulations!
Y para celebrarlo hemos organizado otro Halloween Challenge. Es ya nuestra tercera edición y este año todo el alumnado de nuestros colegios adscritos tuvieron la oportunidad de participar también. Tenemos a los ganadores. En la categoría de video receta Raquel M. de 1º ESO D ha sido la ganadora. En la categoría de la descripción Mª del Águila P. de 1º ESO B y Macarena A. del Colegio Cervantes han sido las ganadoras. Han descrito a La Catrina y a Wednesday Addams. ¡Enhorabuena!

European Day of Languages
The European Day of Languages is celebrated on 26 September. This year we have decorated the bulletin board of our school´s main stairs with posters and information provided by the Council of Europe. Click HERE if you want to read and do some of the activities. They are fun.
El Día Europeo de las Lenguas se celebra el 26 de Septiembre. Este año hemos decorado el corcho de las escaleras principales del instituto con pósters e información del Consejo de Europa. Haz click AQUÍ si quieres leer y hacer algunas de las actividades. Son divertidas.
Scavenger Hunt
Our 1º and 2º ESO students have participated in a Scavenger Hunt with questions and tests related to the subjects of the bilingual programme: PE, maths, biology and English. All of them did a great job but only three teams won first, second and third prize.
Nuestros alumnos de 1º y 2º de ESO han participado en una yincana con preguntas y pruebas relacionadas con las asignaturas del programa bilingüe: educación física, matemáticas, biología e inglés. Todos hicieron un buen trabajo pero solo tres equipos ganaron el primer, segundo y tercer premio.
I Edición del concurso de pasapalabra de transporte y logística: “Transport and Logistics Rosco Challenge”
El concurso de “Transport & Logistics Rosco Challenge” comienza el 14 de febrero y finaliza el 24 de febrero, es una edición especial para todo el instituto, excepto 1º de Transporte y Logística que son los diseñadores de la actividad y han seleccionado el vocabulario más “light” para el alumnado sea cual sea su nivel de inglés y/o de logística (ESO, Bachillerato y resto de ciclos formativos).
Os animamos a que participéis, las instrucciones del tablón están en inglés, pero es sencillo, buscad en nuestro tablón “English Corner” el código QR con el enlace del concurso , también encontraréis otros 2 QRs con las “pistas” que os han dejado para resolverlo si lo necesitáis.

eTwinning: This is my city! Let me show you around!
We recently started an eTwinning project called: This is my city! Let me show you around! There are high schools from five different countries: Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Poland and Spain. We will promote our towns and show them to other countries. We will also meet new friends and know other cities and cultures. It is going to be a great adventure! The first step has been to exchange Christmas cards and this is what we sent.
Recientemente expezamos un proyecto eTwinning llamado: This is my city! Let me show you around! Hay institutos de cinco países diferentes: Grecia, Turquía, Italia, Francia, Polonia y España. Promocionaremos nuestas ciudades y las mostraremos a otros países. También haremos nuevos amigos y conoceremos otras ciudades y culturas. ¡Va a ser una gran aventura! El primer paso ha sido intercambiar tarjetas de Navidad y esto es lo que hemos enviado.

Cell exhibition
Our 1º ESO students have created these practical and colourful cells in order to learn their parts in English. They were done for the biology class and exhibited in the hall of the first floor in our school in November.
Nuestro alumnado de 1º de ESO han creado estas pácticas y coloridas células para aprender sus partes en inglés. Las hicieron para la clase de biología y expuestas en el hall de la primera planta de nuestro instituto en noviembre.
