5.2. Mechero de alcohol EN

Alcohol burner

Use

For producing a flame of low calorific power, proper for processes which don’t require strong heating.

Description

We can distinguish 3 parts in it: a glass recipient, a cotton wick and a glass cap.

Functioning

The burner is filled with alcohol, where the wick is introduced leaving a part of it outside. This portion is lit with a match and thus we produce a slow combustion of the cotton and the alcohol (which impregnates the wick and rises due to capillarity). The result is a steady flame, suitable for being used for a long time, although it does not allow for reaching very high temperatures.
